All are invited to register and attend the free bi-monthly UW Tacoma Alumni Speaker Series. This series brings alumni back to campus to share their stories and career advice with current students, fellow alumni, and community members. The speaker will be interviewed by a student or recent alum, and there will be a Q & A. Light snacks will be available for early arrival while supplies last.

About the speaker: Jake Murphy, Financial Controls & Compliance I Veteran Advocate

Jake Murphy is a Senior Manager of Financial Controls and Compliance at Expeditors, a Fortune 500 service-based logistics company. Prior to joining Expeditors, he worked as a Manager and Consultant at Ernst & Young. He is a U.S. Army veteran and University of Washington Tacoma alumnus who served ten years as an infantry NCO, completing two deployments to Afghanistan and one to Iraq.

Following his transition from military service, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from UW Tacoma and became actively involved with the campus Student Veterans of America (SVA) chapter, building community networks and organizing local events. He successfully translated his military leadership into the corporate sector, securing a role as a Digital Risk Consultant with Ernst & Young in Seattle, Washington.

A dedicated advocate for student veteran success, Jake encourages peers, including current and future student veterans to pursue internships, build meaningful professional networks, and cultivate strong professional brands. As a proud UW Tacoma alumnus, he continues to give back through volunteer service and campus engagement, including serving on the UW Tacoma Accounting Advisory Board.

Outside of his professional and community commitments, Jake is passionate about advocating for alternative medicine for veterans, maintaining an active lifestyle, and competing in Jiu Jitsu tournaments alongside his son. He also enjoys spending quality time with his wife, children, and beloved fur babies.
